What changes as your cat gets older
Cats are very good at hiding when something is wrong. From about age 7-8, kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes and dental problems become more common. So it's a good idea to:
- Schedule a checkup with blood and urine tests at least once a year.
- Watch whether your cat drinks more water than usual: it's one of the first signs of those illnesses. Learn how to measure it in cat drinking a lot of water.
- Keep an eye on their weight and adjust food. Work out how much they need with the pet food calculator.
